Shipments by pulp and paper industry (incl. paper converting industry) in 2008 was about 8 trillion yen, accounting for 2.3% of the total for manufacturing industry and to 1.4% of the Japan’s GDP.
Japanese pulp and paper industry employs 200 thousand workforce. Shipments by the industry per employee was about 38 million yen and ranked 9th.
In 2010, Japan was the third largest paper and paperboard producer after the United States and China.
